Kochi, 16th January, 2017: Bangalore based KEF Infra is manufacturing and assembling GEMS Modern Academy in SmartCity Kochi which is the first school in Kerala being operated by GEMS Education. The project, which was announced today at a press meet in SmartCity, showcases KEF’s innovative, end-to- end offsite technology with 90% of the elements being manufactured at KEF's state of the art offsite facility in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. The ultra modern school spanning 1.3 lakh sq. ft., will be completed in a record time of just 5.5 months and will be handed over at the end of April, 2017. The manufactured wall panels, columns, beams, staircases, facade, bathroom pods, modular MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) are just some of the elements that are prefabricated in the factory and assembled on site, providing the client with 50% savings in time, allowing the school to open in time for the 2017 academic year.
KEF Infra, India's only integrated offsite manufacturing company that manufactures hospitals, schools, hotels & homes, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore registered KEF Holdings, owned by the visionary social entrepreneur, Faizal E. Kottikollon, who originally hails from Kozhikode, Kerala.
Addressing the press, Mr. Kottikollon, Chairman of KEF Holdings said, “As the first GEMS school in Kerala, GEMS Modern Academy, being manufactured and assembled by us, is synonymous with the progressive nature of the SmartCity project. KEF Holdings is uniquely positioned to deliver to the expectations of all the entities involved in this project by fully integrating world class design, manufacturing and technology towards engineered solutions of the highest quality in a timely & cost effective manner. We are committed to building social infrastructure that are key for the welfare of the community, such as schools and hospitals, and we have been successful in realizing this approach through our projects in Kerala. We implemented a complete overhaul of the 120-year- old GVHSS Nadakavvu school for girls in Calicut in 2013. Currently ranked the amongst the top 3 government schools in India, GVHSS Nadakavvu is now becoming a model institution for the rest of Kerala and the nation. Interestingly, 69,000 students in 65 schools across India are directly benefitting from the Nadakkavu model, which is currently being tailored to the needs of those schools. Today, India is at the cusp of growth led by innovation and we are pioneering an age where technology is being effectively integrated into infrastructure, thus heralding industrial revolution 4.0. Our aim is to fast forward this progress by radically changing the landscape of infrastructure in India. At KEF Infra, we challenge conventional building methods and move the industry towards an efficient, and automated platform.”
Also speaking at the press meet, Commodore (Retd.) K Sivakumar of GEMS Education said, “With its pioneering technology for construction, KEF Infra, was the natural choice for GEMS as we planned for the construction for the first school by GEMS in Kerala offering the CBSE curriculum with an option of the IB curriculum in senior classes. The school will house more than 3,000 students under a unique curriculum. With the project being targeted for completion in half the time as compared to traditional construction without compromising quality, we are confident that this is the start of a long term partnership between both the companies and a great showcase to not only the state of Kerala but also to the nation.”
Marking the occasion, Dr. Baju George, CEO of SmartCity Kochi said, “The technology driven construction of the GEMS school being done at record time at our campus is a further testament to the growth of SmartCity Kochi as an international knowledge township. By bringing in KEF Infra as a partner for the project, GEMS Education has shown its progressive approach to education. The fact that GEMS, KEF Infra and SmartCity all have strong bases in the UAE has validated the world class development and progress that is coming to Kerala in the areas of infrastructure, education and knowledge transfer. We believe this offsite manufacturing technology should be adopted in infrastructure projects in a large scale so that the time taken to deliver projects is reduced substantially thereby fast tracking growth."
The KEF Infra One Industrial Park in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu was officially inaugurated on December 19 th , 2016 in the presence of Mr. Narayana Murthy, Founder of Infosys, the chief guest for the occasion.
